DTCM to organise cultural and heritage events during DSF-2010

Month-long events to be held in two heritage sites and The Walk JBR

Dubai residents and visitors will have the opportunity to explore interesting facets of the emirate’s traditions, heritage, and culture and also experience the famed Arabian hospitality during the vast array of programmes lined up by the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) for the month-long Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF-2010) starting January 28.

The multi-venue activities have been designed to offer the visitors insights into the emirate’s history, cultural richness, diversity and social life of the yore against the backdrop of the breathtaking modernity of Dubai.

Running until the end of DSF on February 28, the events will be held at the Heritage and Diving Village complex in Al Shindagha, Hatta Heritage Village and The Walk in Dubai Marina.
Mr. Khalid Ali bin Gharib, Head of DTCM’s Organizing Committee for DSF-2010 Events, said: “Dubai Shopping Festival is an excellent opportunity to recreate Dubai's rich cultural traditions and this year our planned special events will highlight and document the country's ancient history.”
The unique mix of programme includes competitions and exhibitions in addition to traditional Emirati cuisines, handicrafts, souks, horses show, and traditional mock weddings.
DSF, which is in its 15th edition this year, will be having a 32-day run from January 28 to February 28.
Dubai Shopping Festival posted impressive visitor and spending figures for its 2009 edition. Around 3.35 million visitors spent approximately AED 9.8 billion during 32 days in DSF 2009.
